You know what happens when you toss a pebble in a pond. There’s that initial plop and then the ripples start in the center and spread progressively outwards. Getting further and further from the initial contact, reaching wide and far, across much greater distances than you might think a single pebble can.
Good blog commenting practices are like that. They can do more to promote your blog than you may realize. When you ask yourself, “How can I promote my blog?”, blog commenting should be one of the first things that comes to mind. And it’s not just about pursuing quality backlinks. Because when you do it right, your comments will cause ripples that will be felt across the blogsphere and beyond.
Stop associating blog commenting with a means to aquire quality backlinks. They are so much more. One single comment can touch many people, many more than you might expect. Blog commenting that is thoughtful and provacative can capture the attention of not only the blog owner, but the other commentators as well.
I urge you to cast only as many pebbles in the blog commenting pond that you guarantee will be your best writing. Take the time to share your best thoughts and observations from the content you have read. Don’t skimp. This is not just about quality backlinks. It’s about branding yourself and presenting yourself as an interested, interesting individual who has something of value to offer others.
This kind of blog commenting will attract more attention than a hollow “out to get my quality backlinks” attitude. You’ll not only draw readers to your blog, but you’ll get the opportunity to meet new and interesting people. These are potential allies, supporters and partners. Promote your blog with blog commenting practices that will build your reputation and start quality relationships with other entrepeneurs and bloggers.
When I promote my blog through blog commenting I seek to make impressions that will last. What about you? Do you take the time to thoroughly read each post that you comment on? Do you really think about what you read before responding with a comment? Are your blog commenting practices causing ripples that can’t help but get you noticed?
When you are engaged in blog commenting you are selling yourself and your blog. Repeat after me, “Today I will be a more effective pebble in the pond. I will give the best of myself when blog commenting so others will see me and my blog in the best light possible.”

Commenting on blogs has so much potential and power. It’s our chance to step into a new community and be a part of all that entails, and it’s also like a mini guest post where visitors can get a sense of who we are and what we’re all about. Not to mention, it can be sooo much fun when you start building relationships with other commenters across various blogs.

Jean,
You nailed it when you said it’s like a mini guest post. People often overlook this aspect of commenting. Hurrying through to get a comment done and run off without really having said much of anything. Some don’t even bother to proofread and leave silly errors intact.
No one should be overlooking the power potential of a good comment or the extended reach it can give their blogging efforts. Every comment should be well thought out and well written. After all, we all want to make a good impression.
Hey Angel,
Nice article. Commenting on other blog is much more then just getting backlinks, traffic. I never do comments, just for getting backlinks.. !!
As jean said, Really it is so much fun, when you start build relationship with other commentators. Nice Point Jean.
Anyways, Thanks for sharing this great Post Angel. Keep up the good work.

As Dev said, commenting on other blogs is no just for linking or traffic!
For me comments are very important because it’s a way to communicate, and it’s how you you can extend your awesome article with useful comments that add value! I personally use comments to create contest!
Because all of that, I have partnered with Andy of ComentLuv and organized a huge contest all around comments, we want to build a useful folder about commenting and blog comments!
I hope you will have the chance to join so we can hear your voice and thoughts about comments!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about commenting. Sometimes it is difficult, especially for newer bloggers to grasp the importance of the lowly comment.
I had heard about the contest and am planning to blog about and have flirted with idea of entering. Time permitting I will participate with gusto!
Hi Blog Angel,
I totally agree with you. Blog commenting not only helps us to build our blogs, but shows others bloggers we care about theirs. When I started blogging I tried most of the other methods of building my blog before I tried commenting. And, it wasn’t until I started reaching out to others that my blog began to grow.
The backlinks we can get from blog commenting is rarely on my mind. To me, showing support to others is much more important.

You are too right, Barbara, commenting is about community. And I strongly believe that a good blog is built on community more than anything else. Call it networking if you want. The most effective kind of networking occurs from genuine caring interactions, not frome hollow empty gestures.
Backlinks should at best be a secondary concern. I like to think of it like a big party. Get out there and mingle!
Hi Joella
Couldn’t agree more about blogging having a great sense of community.
Other bloggers know how difficult it can be to produce that effortless post!
I visit lots of blogs regularly and leave a comment and receive comments on my blog in return.
Having said that, I only comment on blogs that interest me or where I think I can add something to the discussion.
Love the tossing pebbles in pond analogy.

I’ll take it as a compliment and want you to know that your additions to the discussions here at BWW are very welcome.
Effortless posts eh? I wish I could produce my posts with less exertion. lol
