
I'm not even going to try to list all the reasons you might need a copy of your blog posts, yes all of them. But bad things can happen even if you think they can't - they can. Server snafus, hackers, accidental deletion, the list goes on and on. And BAM, when you least expect it you're sitting there in front of the computer, in the aftermath of some unforeseen disaster staring in stunned disbelief. Don't let this happen to you. Regularly backup your blog, at least once per week.
It's not difficult and it could save you a great deal of grief and frustration.

Depending on what blogging platform you use, you may have built-in options to do regular backups. But these options usually require you to initiate the backup and store the resulting files on your computer. If you can't trust yourself to do this on a regular basis - at least once per week, you should use a service that will do it for you. I have found a great one that will backup you blog online for free. Can you believe it? You don't have to give up any storage space on your own computer and it won't cost you a thing!
BlogBackupr is an online backup service that requires no software installation, runs daily backups of your blog and works with any blog that has an RSS feed. They currently maintain daily backups of almost 44 million blogs. Automatic restores are supported for any Wordpress or Blogger.com blogs. Other blogs can use the export function to restore a blog that has been backed up.
BlogBackupr is very easy to sign up for - all you have to do is type in the URL to your blog and fill in your email address. Then you hit send and you get the following message:
Right away they have started creating your first daily backup. And they send you your login and password information in an email. That's it, that's all, you don't have to do another thing. If you need to restore your blog, just login using your email and password and follow the instructions provided. Note - you have to give them at least one day before your first backup will be available.
Do I use this service to backup Blogs With Wings? Yes I do. I also do a backup of my home directory and databases once per week from my server to my computer. But I never like to have just one option, having an online backup as well as a local one, gives me added peace of mind. Whatever option you choose, you should perform regular blog backups.
