WordPress 3.0 Errors, Issues, Problems And The Solutions!

Image of Worpress icon. This post is for any of you still waiting to update to WordPress 3.0 Thelonious. I couldn’t hold out any longer. This WordPress version has an impressive list of new features, so I dove in head long and ran the update.  I also went ahead and updated aone of my client’s blogs, since her install was only a couple of days old. Everything appears to running smoothly and I have encountered absolutely no issues with either blog. All plugins are still working and nothing seems to be amiss. But that’s just on these two blogs and it’s only been a little more than a day.

People are encountering a few recurring issues that you should be aware of. I would especially caution anyone using the Thesis theme for their blog or blogs. As always, before you update, backup at least your database, if not your entire WordPress install. And don’t forget to deactivate all your plugins. To be really proactive consider removing your plugins to another folder (named something other than “plugins”). Then add them back one by one to be sure they are compatible with your new WordPress 3.0 installation.

One last thing you can do before you update to  WordPress 3.0 Thelonious,is to checkout this list of articles and posts that outline some of the more common WordPress 3.0 issues and ways they can be fixed:

Everything should be fine if you take your time, use caution and make yourself aware of any WordPress 3.0 issues that may affect your particular blog setup. I think for the most part, any WordPress 3.0 Thelonious issues and errors are fairly easy to fix. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

I can’t believe you couldn’t wait any longer. Well, I guess I really can. You were chomping at the bit the other day. I am still going to wait a couple of more weeks. I am a little overly cautious at times.

Thanks for sharing the information and the links about some of the issues.

I’ve got the Headway theme and I’ve been hearing things are going fine for people with that who are upgrading. I’m still sort of chicken though so will likely wait a couple weeks.

I haven’t heard any bad feedback about the Headway theme as of yet. But if you were running WordPress 2.9 and your theme was working with it, then it will probably work just as well with WordPress 3.0. You can always Google your theme in conjunction with WordPress 3.0 errors/issues and see what comes up.

OR – you could wait a bit longer. In which case you are a more patient soul than I. LOL

Glad you found the information useful. I felt that linking to some of the more common problems with their fixes would be more helpful than just outlining what the errors are. Most of them are pretty minor and aren’t an actual problem with WordPress 3.0, but rather incompatibilities in themes and such.

I love wordpress 3.0 although my fingers were crossed while updating process lol. Thanks God it went very well. But i still feel very sorry about those (unfortunately alot) who have problems with upgrading, some are still waiting to upgrade for the next version due to non-updated plugins..

Well you can usually find plugin substitutes. I try to avoid using plugins that haven’t been updated at least once in the last 6-8 months. All in all, WordPress 3.0 is really awesome!

I have 3 Blogs that I updated to 3.0 and didn’t see one glitch. I use a free theme on one and Theme Foundry themes on the other two,

It seems that overall, people are only having problems with WordPress 3.0 when they are using Thesis, outdated plugins or a really old install of WP. For the most part WordPress 3.0 isn’t the problem, rather the failure lies with the people who have not updated plugins and themes to work with this latest release.

I’m going to wait for version 3.0.1. I just don’t want to risk ‘wasting’ a few hours. I’m in no rush.

Andrew, you would be the cautious and patient one among all us eager beavers. But it’s the eager beavers that will be the ones who find any flaws and fixes for the rest of the WordPress users. LOL See us A.D.D. impulsives have our function in the world afterall. LOL

I upgraded without any issue from what I can tell so far. I’m using the Thesis theme, though I haven’t customized it that much…so maybe that’s why I’ve been safe so far :-) I did, however, back up everything just in case!

That’s the real trick, isn’t it? You’ve got to backup everything before doing a major update of WordPress. And it does sound like you lucked out with Thesis, since that’s the one that people seem to be having the most trouble with.
